Dan Paret, Maker: working in wood and paint

Working in a small basement shop just north of Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA, I make functional wood objects.  When I am not in my own basement, I am likely to be out walking or teaching hand tool woodworking classes in the basement of the Cambridge Center for Adult Education. From time to time I also have the pleasure of teaching short classes at the Eliot School in Jamaica Plain.

I do all of my work using hand woodworking tools, not to challenge myself or anyone else, but because that is how I like to work.

I am an avocational woodworker, which for me means that I occasionally sell things, but I do the work  because I find it satisfying-I am at peace in my shop, and in good company when I am teaching.  Annie Dillard wrote, "How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives."  Spending my days making things or teaching others to do so, is a very nice way to spend a life.
